Health Canada's Food Board recently approved stevia containing the stevia side "Rebaudioside M" (RebM) as a high-intensity sweetener in food and beverages. On January 15, 2016, the Company announced that RebM was approved for use in the food and beverage category under the same conditions of use as steviol glycosides previously permitted in Canada.
After conducting a detailed safety analysis, Health Canada concluded there were no safety concerns with the sweetener. RebM is one of the naturally occurring stevia sugars found in stevia leaves and is sought after for its clean, sugar-like taste.
Stevia side is a high-intensity sweetener extracted from stevia leaves. The sweet molecule is 200-350 times sweeter than sugar and can be used in a variety of food and beverage products around the world. Their approval requires the total stevia side to be at least 95 percent.
